Vision Control in League of Legends: The Most Underrated Skill in Solo Queue

Nobody screenshots their vision score to show off after a game. That's exactly why it's one of the most underused skills in solo queue: it earns no immediate recognition, only games won differently.
Why vision matters more than individual score
A ward placed in the right spot gives you no kill, but it gives your whole team the information that avoids a death to a gank, or lets you contest an objective knowing exactly where all five enemies are. A single well-placed ward can be worth more than a good individual trade, simply because it changes five players' decisions instead of one skirmish.
Where to place wards nobody else places
Most players ward at the start of the wave, in the same spot every game, out of habit. The wards that actually swing a game go down at specific moments: right before a major objective spawns, in the river after winning or losing a trade (the enemy jungler often responds within the next minute), and on rotation paths rather than lane bushes already covered by natural vision.
Control wards: the missing habit most players never build
The control ward is the item most often forgotten in the shop, even though it does exactly what its name says: removes enemy vision instead of just adding your own. Without it, your regular wards get spotted and cleared within minutes — vision then becomes a one-sided game in the enemy's favor.
Reading the minimap instead of your crosshair
Placing wards is pointless if you never look at what they reveal. The habit that actually changes a game is checking the minimap every 10-15 seconds, even with no visible event — that steady rhythm, not the ward itself, is what turns information into a decision.
